MY DEAD FRIEND ZOE is a dark comedy that follows the journey of Merit (Sonequa Martin-Green), a U.S. Army veteran in Afghanistan, who finds herself at odds with her family over the presence of Zoe (Natalie Morales), her dead best friend, in the military. Despite the persistence of her VA counselor (Morgan Freeman), the tough love of her mother (Gloria Reuben), and the ease of an unexpected love interest, Merit’s cozy-dysfunctional friendship with Zoe isolates the pair from the world. That is, until Merit’s estranged grandfather (Ed Harris) – who lives in the family’s ancient lake house – starts to lose his way and needs the one thing he refuses to give up… help. At its core, it’s a buddy movie about complicated friendships, a divided family, and the complex ways of dealing with grief.
